little free stem library project

Our STEM Little Free Libraries work to address the need across diverse Arizona communities to provide accessible STEM learning opportunities. In collaboration with public libraries in Arizona, the Rural Activation Innovation Network, and Southwest Human Development, our team is compiling STEM kits for the sponsored LFLs in rural areas.

Since March of 2022, we have sent over 4000 themed STEM kits and and hundreds of books to to LFLs in Coconino, Graham, Navajo, Maricopa, Mohave, and Yavapai counties.

The support from AVNET and Cox have been crucial to our growth of the program.

I was putting together a STEM kit to make sure everything fit inside. Later that day, the maintenance man came in and asked, “What are you doing?” I told him about the Little Free Library STEM kits AVNET sponsors and asked if he had any kids. He told me he did, so I gave him a STEM kit to give to his oldest child. I saw him the other day and asked if his son had put together any of the projects in the kit. He told me the Sunday before, his wife was home with the oldest, and they worked on the STEM kit together. When he got home and opened the door he heard, “Daddy, Daddy, we made DNA!” He said his son was so excited and thanked me for giving him one of the kits and said, “If you do anything like that again, please let me know, my kid loved it.” I just thought that was so very awesome. Thanks again for getting us involved.
