Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival: Northern Arizona Birds with a Meme Twist

This presentation will highlight a variety of Northern Arizona species with beautiful photos plus eBird data and funny bird memes to provide you with a taste of what to expect when visiting birding hotspots and backyards in Northern Arizona. Northern Arizona is a goldmine when searching for a variety of raptors, waterfowl, and passerines. At elevations of 6,000 feet or more, common and unusual birds can be found at Kachina Wetlands, The Arboretum, the NAU campus, Rio de Flag, and other locations in Flagstaff – just an hour’s drive from the Verde Valley.

Speaker: Margaret Dyekman Author , Speaker, Birder, Backyard Birding in Northern ArizonaMargaret Dyekman has watched birds in Northern Arizona from her backyard for 20 years and spent those years documenting her experiences and those of other backyard birders in entertaining and informative print articles and blogs. She is an accomplished writer and speaker, published in professional magazines, and a frequent conference presenter, now delving into birding presentations after her career presentations in human resources topics.  She recently published Backyard Birding in Northern Arizona, a beautiful text and photo book, where she took real-life experiences and turned them into vignettes about bird identification, showing the reader how to make the most of backyard birding. She is a member of Northern Arizona, Desert Rivers, and White Mountain Audubon Societies, Arizona Field Ornithologists, the Central Arizona Butterfly Association, Arizona Country Club, Pinewood Country Club, the North American Butterfly Association, and the American Birding Association.

Part of the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival

It’s the 2024 Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival! In 2024, join us as we explore the theme of migration and its impact on riparian areas in our environment. Our keynote speaker, Richard Crossley, will lead discussions, and the featured bird for the year is the common black hawk.
The Free Family Nature Festival at the Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival will be in the lagoon area on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm.
There will be armchair birding and guided bird walks all across the Verde Valley from April 25th – 28th that you do need to register for.
