Alberto Búrquez, Ph.D., works as a researcher at the Instituto de Ecología, Department of Ecology of Biodiversity, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He is a co-author (with David Yetman) of The Saguaro Cactus: A Natural History and Mexico’s Valleys of Cuicatlán and Tehuacán: From Deserts to Clouds. Búrquez does research in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Ethnoecology. His current projects include 1) Columnar cacti: ecology, evolution, societal services. 2) Effects of extreme events on vegetation, 3) Species Distribution and Biogeography, and 4) drought and freezing resistance in neotropical plants at the edge of distribution.
