Arizona State Parks and Trails: Geology Tour

Did you know that Oracle State Park was once covered by warm, shallow seas?  Are you familiar with the numerous faults that uncovered rocks once buried more than 5 miles beneath the surface?

The Park offers visitors the opportunity to experience the unique geology of the Santa Catalina Mountains area. First, you’ll participate in an interactive discussion of major geologic events led by Park Geologist Tom Buckley. Then you’ll join Tom on a 1¼ mile guided hike exploring the landforms and dynamic geology of the surrounding area. You’ll have many opportunities to ask questions and handle real rocks in the field!

No prior geology experience is needed. Meet at Oracle State Park’s Group Use Area Parking Lot.

Reserve your spot here (search for Oracle State Park under places). Event registration will be available two months in advance. You may also reserve a spot by calling the park at 520-896-2425.

  • Audience: Adult, Teens (14 - 18 years), Tweens (9 - 13 years)
