In this Short Activity, learners sniff a series of diluted scent solutions to discover they can smell nano-sized particles they can’t see.
“Exploring Size – Scented Solutions” is a hands on activity illustrating how small nano is. By sniffing a series of diluted scent solutions, visitors discover that nano-sized particles may be too small to see, but they’re not too small to smell!

Nanoscale science focuses on things that are too small to see, including atoms and molecules.
LEARNING GOALS
- A nanometer is a billionth of a meter.
