Sponsored Projects
& Indirect Cost Rate
SciTech Institute (Arizona Technology Council Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Tempe, Arizona. We welcome sponsored project funding from federal agencies, state agencies, private foundations, and corporate partners in support of our STEM education and workforce development mission.
Our Indirect Cost Rate (Receiving Sponsored Funding)
When SciTech Institute is the recipient of sponsored project funding, we apply an indirect cost (F&A) rate of 15% of Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC). This rate is consistent with the federal de minimis rate established under 2 CFR §200.414(f).
Indirect costs cover the organizational infrastructure that supports all of our projects and programs, including financial management, human resources, information technology, and general administration. These costs are real — they make successful project delivery possible.
Technical note for grant budget preparers:
MTDC excludes equipment, capital expenditures, patient care costs, tuition remission, and the portion of each subcontract exceeding $25,000.
SciTech Institute recognizes that some federal programs and private foundations impose lower indirect cost caps. In those cases, we will work within the sponsor’s published guidelines. We welcome conversations with prospective partners about budget structure prior to proposal submission.
Indirect Cost Support for Partner Organizations (SciTech-Administered Grants)
When SciTech Institute administers grants and provides funding to partner organizations, we support indirect costs at 10% of direct costs for projects funded through non-federal sources such as corporate sponsors, private foundations, and state contracts without federal flow-through.
Partners holding a Federally Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA) are welcome to request their approved rate, subject to the terms and conditions of the specific funding source.
Important:
If your project involves federal flow-through funds, different rules apply. Please contact us to discuss your specific budget before submission.
