OdySea Aquarium: Arizona Wetlands Project (Grades 9 - 12)
As part of the study of rivers, the wetlands project is an opportunity for students to study in the field and report their findings.
Arizona has several areas that are considered wetlands and have been labeled as field-study locations for scientists and nature lovers. Select one of the Arizona wetlands that you would like to visit. Collect and record data on your field-study mission. If possible, take photos or make drawings of the location and the animal life you observe.
Once your observations are completed and your data is recorded, write an overall description of the experience. Include a complete description of the wetlands visited, the time spent observing, the sights, sounds, and smells, and your impression of the experience.
9th-12th grade curricula include both in-class and independent assignments focusing on Water, Rivers of the World and Coral Reefs. Lessons for the classroom include The Water Cycle, The Importance of Rivers and Coral Reef Explorer. The independent assignment to complete at OdySea Aquarium is called Water World. An optional independent project is the Arizona Wetlands Project.
Guests of OdySea Aquarium follow the journey of a drop of water as it falls from the sky and gently flows into rivers and lakes, winding its way to the shore and down to the vast ocean.
As you take a journey through a fascinating collection of salt and fresh water creatures, think about how water is used and the importance of water on the planet.
With data collected from investigating the selected river, write an essay that focuses on conservation of that particular Arizona river.
The following lesson plans are designed to offer teachers and students a look at the undersea world of coral reefs.
The high school lesson design includes both in-class and independent assignments.
