Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert 101 Hike

Learn all about the Sonoran Desert and explore less traveled parts of the park during this guided hike with Ranger Derik.  

Join Ranger Derik for a guided hike to learn about the animals, plants, and ecology of the Sonoran Desert. We will hike 4.2 miles roundtrip on the Bald Eagle Trail accessed off the Table Mesa Rd. exit off I-17. The trail is easy to moderate grade, with frequently rocky or uneven ground. Please dress in layers, wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water, electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. Restrooms are available at the trailhead parking area, however there is no water available.

For those of you participating in the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, this is a great way to work towards your goal! The challenge runs from Nov.1-Feb. 8. MEETING LOCATION: Bald Eagle Trailhead which is off of I-17 on Table Mesa Road exit in the far north end of the park. See park map here:

Limit 20 participants. To register, please email derik.rodgers@maricopa.govwith your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email Ranger Derik ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on Thursday, 1/23/2025.
