Tempe Public Library: You and Your Genes

July 18 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

Learn about genetics and how it impacts your health.

Ever wondered why certain health conditions run in families? Join us for a free, beginner-friendly talk covering the basics of genetics and how it impacts your health. We’ll also walk you through who to talk to if you have genetics-related questions — including how to find a genetic counselor in Arizona. No prior knowledge needed.

Krista Ortega is a genetic counselor based in Arizona with a passion for making genetics accessible to everyone. She holds a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Arizona State University and has worked in a wide range of settings, including oncology, prenatal care, and pediatrics. Krista believes that understanding your genes shouldn’t require a medical degree, and she is dedicated to bringing clear, honest, and approachable conversations about genetics directly to the communities that need them most.
