Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Guided Bird Hike

May 12, 2024 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 am

Free with Park Fee

Join Ranger Eric to look for and learn about the resident and migratory birds of the Sonoran Desert on this easy to moderate hike. Along the way, we will discuss basic bird identification, ecology of the Sonoran Desert, and how birds are adapted to this arid environment. We will meet at the Area 2 Bajada Trailhead and hike about 1-mile up Bajada and Goat Camp Trails to just below a stand of elephant trees, one of the northernmost populations of this species, which is an important food source for wintering and migrant gray vireos. Flowering trees may attract insects and migrant insectivore birds. Please wear sturdy footwear, protective clothing and/or sunscreen, carry ample water and snacks, and binoculars or camera if you have them. Restrooms are located at Area 2 and also at the White Tanks Public Library and Nature Center building.

MEETING LOCATION: Area 2, Bajada Trailhead. See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/white-tank-8×11.pdf

Limit 10 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 5. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on Saturday, 5/11/24.
