Flagstaff Festival of Science: “The Seeds Our Ancestors Planted” Film Screening, Panel & Live Food Demo

What was it like to graduate high school in the year 2020? And what’s the connection between the pandemic, chronic disease, and the food we eat?

Set amidst COVID-19 arriving in Arizona, “The Seeds Our Ancestors Planted” is an inspiring short film that follows Diné Flagstaff High School student Kai Begay as he joins a growing food renaissance across Navajo Nation. Filmed by Oakley Anderson-Moore & Kai Begay. The Q&A following the film will feature the filmmakers, producers and local food champions who were featured in and created the film. Meg Kabotie Adakai will lead a fun food demonstration where we will learn to cook a tasty and nutritious ancestral plant-based dish.

The Flagstaff Festival of Science is pleased to present “The Mammoth World of Science” September 22- October 1, 2023! The Festival features 10-days of engaging events and programs, all free, for the community to enjoy and celebrate the wonders of science!

This year’s theme has been designed to showcase the fascinating research and scientific discovery of Beth Shapiro, PhD.

The Festival offers a wide variety of presentations, hands-on workshops, interactive discussions, classroom talks and guided tours led by outstanding Flagstaff scientists and STEAM professionals. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to learn about ancient cultures, the environment of the Colorado Plateau, wildlife, astronomy and biology, as well as many topics at the intersection of the sciences and the arts.

Festival events highlight the innovative research happening right here in Flagstaff! Events are held in a variety of venues and institutions throughout northern Arizona.
