Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Bug Theatre/Scorpion Safari
August 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free with Park Fee
We’re setting up our version of the silver screen at the Solar Oasis tonight.
We’ll meet at the Spur Cross trailhead, where you’ll get to say hello to some of our favorite “creepy-crawly” critters. Then we’ll hike down to the Solar Oasis, where, once it’s dark, we’ll turn on the spotlight and enjoy the show that unfolds, as all manner of arthropods are drawn to the lights. On our way back, we’ll be scanning the desert with our UV light in search of resident scorpions. Please note that this program includes about a quarter-mile hike each way to the Solar Oasis (1/2-mile total). This is a great opportunity to ask your bug-related questions, learn about unique and interesting animals like palo verde beetles, whipscorpions, tarantulas and giant desert centipedes, and get a good, close-up look at any insect guest stars that decide to join us. Family friendly program. Restrooms are available at the trailhead, but please bring plenty of water. NO pets, please.
