When it comes to opening doors to curiosity and building lifelong connections to science, the Arizona Science Center with its wide-reaching and inspiring impact quickly comes to mind. With a mission to enrich all communities through science, the Center is a key player in Arizona’s growing STEM landscape, offering hands-on programs at their downtown Phoenix location and traveling across the state to serve students, educators, and families in every region.
As a dedicated partner in the Arizona STEM Ecosystem and an active contributor to SciTech Institute’s collaborative statewide efforts, Arizona Science Center brings STEM to life in ways that are fun, engaging, and accessible. Their programs reach more than 200,000 PreK–12 students and thousands of educators annually, helping to elevate science learning while supporting teachers with the tools and confidence to lead.
Their commitment to accessibility is especially evident through initiatives like Science on Wheels, which brings mobile STEM experiences directly to schools, libraries, and communities in all 15 Arizona counties. Whether students are building circuits, experimenting with chemistry, or exploring robotics, the Center ensures that no matter where learners live, they have opportunities to engage with STEM in meaningful and memorable ways.
This summer, the Center’s CAMP INNOVATION program welcomed hundreds of curious minds through both on-site and satellite camps across the state. From coding and engineering to exploring future STEM careers, these camps immerse young learners in hands-on challenges designed to nurture creativity, problem-solving, and a love for learning.
Also during the summer months, Arizona Science Center partners closely with SciTech Institute to help bring the National Rural STEM Learning Summit to life. Through shared planning, convening, and community engagement, they work to elevate rural voices, connect educators and ecosystem leaders, and spotlight place-based STEM strategies that reflect the realities and strengths of rural communities. This collaboration reinforces a shared commitment to equity, access, and statewide impact—ensuring that rural learners and educators are central to conversations shaping the future of STEM education.
Looking ahead to fall, Arizona Science Center is preparing for its biannual Educate to Innovate conference, a day-long event for educators across the state to gain innovative tools, explore cutting-edge topics like AI in early education, and build stronger classroom connections to STEM. Events like this demonstrate the Center’s leadership not just in student programming, but in shaping how educators across Arizona teach and inspire the next generation of innovators.
Arizona Science Center also manages the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF), the state’s premier science competition, which brings together top student researchers from across Arizona to compete for scholarships and awards. Events like AzSEF reflect the Center’s belief that STEM learning should be both aspirational and achievable, empowering students from every background to see themselves as scientists, engineers, and creators.
Their partnerships also extend into culturally responsive and place-based learning. One standout initiative is their collaboration with the Arizona Department of Education, Office of Indian Education, through projects like the 
Indigenous STEM Symposium and Native American Code Writers Program. These efforts ensure that STEM learning reflects and respects the diverse cultural perspectives of Arizona’s Native communities.
In rural regions, the Center works hand-in-hand with communities to create locally driven events like Willcox STEAMFest, which showcases regional STEM industries, including agriculture. By supporting events that connect STEM to the everyday lives of students and families, the Center helps learners see that science isn’t something far away… it’s something that exists in their hometowns, industries, and cultures.
As Arizona continues to grow as a hub for innovation and tech, the need for strong, equitable STEM education is more important than ever. Through the SciTech Institute network and the broader Arizona STEM Ecosystem, Arizona Science Center’s work exemplifies what’s possible when access, creativity, and community come together.
