Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources: Minerals and WiFi
Mineral resources play an important role in keeping us connected to each other.
Whether wired or wireless, communication equipment relies on copper wire to provide power. That copper must be mined from the ground or recycled. In 2019, 35% of the copper used in the USA was scrap or recycled copper. That means that 65% of the copper we used was newly mined out of the ground. Explore how we use copper to connect to each other in this educational video for 3rd to 7th graders.
Minerals Make It is a video series where 3rd through 7th graders can explore how we use minerals in our daily lives and where we get those mineral from.

Everyone should have an opportunity to learn how we use minerals in our lives and where they come from, what modern mining really is and which professional opportunities it offers. Our outreach programs provide resources and programming for K-12 and college-level groups to discover the exciting world of mineral resources.
