Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival: Hauser & Hauser Farms (Formerly Shield Ranch) Field Trip

April 26, 2024 @ 6:00 am - 1:00 pm

This environmentally important 306-acre section of the Verde River at its confluence with West Clear Creek effectively links the Coconino and Prescott National Forests. Shield Ranch provides critical habitat for the at-risk southwest willow flycatcher as well as nesting sites for the common black-hawk. This lush cottonwood-willow riparian habitat provides a migratory flyway corridor as well as nesting sites for Bullock’s and hooded orioles, blue grosbeak, summer tanagers, warblers, and sparrows. We will walk approximately 2 mi., some over river cobbles and brushy areas.

It’s the 2024 Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival! In 2024, join us as we explore the theme of migration and its impact on riparian areas in our environment. Our keynote speaker, Richard Crossley, will lead discussions, and the featured bird for the year is the common black hawk.
The Free Family Nature Festival at the Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival will be in the lagoon area on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm.
There will be armchair birding and guided bird walks all across the Verde Valley from April 25th – 28th that you do need to register for.
