Tucson Bird Alliance: Montosa Canyon Field Trip

April 4, 2025 @ 6:30 am - 12:00 pm

$35 – $50

We’ll be at the forefront of spring migration but should see returning Bell’s Vireos and Lucy’s Warblers, along with a great mix of oak woodland, riparian, and thornscrub species like Canyon Towhee, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Hutton’s Vireo, and Black-throated Sparrow. We will meet at the McDonald’s in Green Valley (Continental Road) at 6:30am and then carpool out to Montosa Canyon and the area around the Whipple Picnic Area. There is a bathroom here for use. We’ll bird up the Mt. Hopkins Road and then plan to be back to the carpool location about 12pm. Limited to 10 participants.

Leader: Luke Safford (lsafford@tucsonbirds.org)

$35/member, $50/non-member

Trip Difficulty: Moderate. We’ll walk along graded gravel and rocky roads/trails with some uneven footing and some inclines. No more than 2 miles total, with some intermittent driving between walks.

Location:

Montosa Canyon
Whipple Picnic Area
