Tucson Audubon Society: Willcox and Cochise Lake Area Field Trip

February 22, 2025 @ 6:30 am - 2:00 pm

$50 – $75

$50/member, $75/non-member

Trip Difficulty: Easy, Some walking along dirt, gravel, and paved roads with some driving.

Wintering Sandhill Cranes are always a big draw at Cochise Lake, but we’ll also focus on all the other great birds found around the golf course, lake, and nearby fields and parks. Getting there
a bit early gives us the best chance for Scaled Quail feeding along the edges of the golf course, along with Lark Sparrows, Chihuahuan Meadowlark, and most likely a huge flock of American
Wigeon. Waterfowl are in great numbers with 15+ species possible. After the lake and golf course we’ll visit the old cemetery area which hosted Crissal Thrasher and Sagebrush Sparrow
last year. The plan will be to arrive at Willcox Lake about 7:30am after meeting for carpooling at 6:30am just outside of Tucson along I-10. We’ll arrive back at the carpooling location about
2pm. Bring lunch and dress in layers. Limited to 10 participants.

Leader: Luke Safford (lsafford@tucsonaudubon.org)
