Tucson Audubon Society: Rio Vista Park Field Trip

October 19, 2024 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 am

Free

Trip difficulty: Easy. ~ 2 miles. This walk is easy on unpacked, but firm trails in the park. There are gentle slopes across drainage areas.

Rio Vista is one of two designated natural resource parks in Tucson, and about 85% of the park is natural vegetation. We’ll walk up to 2 miles on trails that loop through the park’s desert scrub habitat, including some drainages with taller mesquites where we may find some surprises. Typical birds we should spot include woodpeckers, hummingbirds, doves, hawks, Phainopeplas, Lucy’s Warblers, and Vermilion Flycatchers. With luck we could also find some migratory species passing through. We will start at 7:00am. Meet at the parking lot located at the end of Tucson Blvd, north of Prince Rd. Paths are gravel and dirt, not paved, with very little incline. A restroom is available at the parking area. We will finish by 9:00am.

Leaders: Gary Bachman and Scott Olmstead

Registration for this walk is free.
