The University of Arizona: Seize the Day-ta! Data Science as Math in the Real World Grades 5-8 (IMPACTS-MS)

March 29, 2025 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Data literacy is a key 21st century skill for nearly every occupation and daily life. Students who are data literate must be able to read, analyze, and communicate with data, but the reality is most middle and high schools don’t teach students these valuable skills.

Join us for this unique workshop to explore the role of data science in the middle grades, to experience a data cycle, and to improve the teaching and learning of mathematical content (SP) and scientific ideas.

**This workshop is a collaboration between the CRR and the UA Data Sciences Academy.

Presenters: Adam Gardner, Kristin Connelly, Michelle Parces, Gregory Roberts, Rosa Bockian, Angela Marquez, Joe Watkins, and Rodrigo Gutiérrez

Time: 8:30am-12:30pm

Location: Hybrid: In-person at UArizona Tucson Campus. Remote via Zoom.

Earn: Up to 5 hours of professional development credit for recertification.

**NOTE: Participants will be expected to take a task back to their classrooms, collect and analyze student work, and share their reflections with the CRR.
