The University of Arizona: Counting (Yes Counting!) Transforming Math Class in K-5 (HEMS)

Discover powerful strategies to deepen K-5 students’ understanding of number, patterns, relationships, and operations in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals! This session explores interactive counting activities that promote mathematical discourse, support diverse learners, and foster a classroom culture of curiosity and collaboration. Engage in hands-on experiences and learn scalable strategies to build students’ conceptual understanding and confidence in math across all elementary grades. Leave with practical tools to make counting a dynamic and integral part of your instruction.

Speakers: Wendy Towery-Stove and Robyn Nelson

Time: 1:00pm-5:00pm

Location: Hybrid: In-person at UArizona Tucson Campus. Remote via Zoom.

Earn: Up to 5 hours of professional development credit for recertification and a $25 stipend for full participation.

**NOTE: Participants will be expected to take a task back to their classrooms, collect and analyze student work, and share their reflections with the CRR.
