Reid Park Zoo: Zoo-Wide BioBlitz

October 20, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free with Admission

A Bioblitz is an event at which a group of volunteers get together to find and identify as many different native plants and animals as possible in a given area.

Visit the Zoo’s pollinator garden on Sunday, October 20th anytime between 10 am and 12 pm to learn how YOU can participate in a Zoo-wide Bioblitz and become a community scientist! Go on a scavenger hunt for native wildlife while you explore the Zoo. If you take pictures of the wildlife you see, you can post them to iNaturalist, a community database that scientists use to save wild animals and wild places.

Enjoy activities and crafts while learning about insect pollinators and other invertebrates (animals without backbones) from a representative of the Xerces Society!

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Identification skills are not necessary.

This event is free with paid Zoo admission. Advance registration is not required.

Bioblitz Tips:

  • Bring a camera or take photos on your phone to post on iNaturalist.
  • Binoculars or a magnifying glass can be useful for small animals or animals that are far away.
  • Learn more about iNaturalist and download the free app to your mobile device.
  • Join the Reid Park Zoo Bioblitz project on iNaturalist to get updates.
