Join a naturalist for a guided hike along Brown Mountain in Tucson Mountain Park.
Explore the natural history of the Brown Mountain area at the western edge of Tucson Mountain Park. Hike among Saguaros to get a closer look at the interesting and diverse flora and fauna that helps make the Sonoran Desert so unique. This will be a 3-4 mile hike, with some elevation change. Trekking poles are recommended and confidence on varied terrain is necessary. Bring a snack and plenty of water. Hike may be subject to change due to weather.
DIRECTIONS: Brown Mountain Trail 8420 W McCain Loop 85735 From Tucson, take Speedway Blvd west. Speedway Blvd becomes Gates Pass Road west of Silverbell Road. Continue west on Gates Pass Road over the mountain pass to intersection with Kinney Road. Turn right (north) on Kinney Road, go a short distance and turn left on to McCain Loop toward Gilbert Ray Campground. Park at the first paved pullout on your right labeled M-9. There are no restrooms and no water available at this trailhead. Sections of the trail are steep and rocky.
Please carry water and wear sturdy hiking shoes.
