Mesa Arts Center: Welded Steel and Glass

A new class where students will be alternating their time between the welding studio and glass hot shop. In the welding studio you will learn basic MIG welding techniques to create metal sculptures that will be embellished with glass. In the glass studio portion of this class, you will learn the basics of traditional glass blowing. Work in teams to complete simple solid and hollow glass objects to be incorporated in metal sculptures. Glass supplies are included. Bring drinking water and protective sleeves (cotton welder sleeves or long socks with toes cut off). Appropriate clothing required – natural fiber fabrics and leather closed toe shoes. All leather work gloves (yellow roping). Note: this class is held in a shaded, outdoor area with hot equipment. The heat may not be appropriate for some students. Please make sure our registrar has your email address for contact by instructor. Some metal will be provided but students may need to buy additional metal based on their project.
