March 16, 2024 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am

Free

Trailside Naturalist – What Bird was that? at Gateway Trailhead

Location: Gateway Trailhead – 18333 N Thompson Peak Pkwy, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

Time: ~2.5 hours

Stop by anytime between 8:30 and 11:00 A.M. to find out what birds fly and live in the Preserve.

The Conservancy, with the help of our research partners, has identified 189 species of birds in the Preserve. Included in this number are species that we see quite often like the cactus wren, Arizona’s state bird and the curve billed thrasher. Some unexpected feathered friends that have been observed in our part of the Sonoran Desert are eight species of ducks and geese and a belted king fisher! Stop by and learn why the Conservancy has identified such a wide variety of feathered friends that visit or call the desert home.
