Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Wildflowers and Butterflies Hike

March 14 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free with Park Fee
Join Ranger Kevin for a mid-morning hike in our beautiful springtime desert.

Join Ranger Kevin for a 2.6-mile hike on the Cottonwood trail. Trail is rated easy-moderate, with some loose rock, uneven terrain and little elevation change. We will be on the lookout for all kinds of wildlife along the way, especially butterflies, as well as wildflowers. Some animals we may see include mule deer, javelina, squirrels, rabbits, birds and perhaps a reptile or two. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Restrooms are available near the trailhead. No pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Cottonwood Day Use Area/Trailhead (use lake’s north entrance)
Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Kevin at Kevin.Thorson@maricopa.gov. Please include your name, phone number, and number of people. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 3/12/2026.
