Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Safari

Ranger Nikki will lead you on an evening walk to seek out scorpions, bats, owls, tarantulas and other nocturnal critters. The route follows Butterfield Trail for an out-and-back easy to moderate walk covering approximately 2 miles total. The terrain varies from smooth and flat to uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. Bring your blacklight and a regular flashlight. No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available nearby on the west side of the parking lot at Rainbow Valley Trailhead. Please bring $7 exact cash for the self-pay station or your annual pass to display on your vehicle.

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Estrella Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 6 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 9/25/24.

Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events.
