Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Safari

Summer is here and so are our scorpion friends. We’ll be on the lookout for our Sonoran Desert species, and whoever finds the Giant Desert Hairy scorpion wins! This fun program starts with a brief overview of scorpions of Arizona and how to identify them, followed by a walk with Ranger Olivia to see how many we can find. We’ll be exploring the Service Road trail for a 2-mile out-and-back hike on easy to moderate terrain. Don’t forget to bring your blacklights, flashlights, water, close-toed shoes, and $7 cash/ vehicle to self-pay. No pets please. Water and restrooms are available at the Nature Center. Gates close at 9pm.

Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The MC Parks website is the best resource for verifying the program’s current status, so please check the program listing prior to departing for your scheduled program.

Limit 15 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 7 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 07/31/24.
