Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Hike

Join Ranger Derik on a night hike through the park in search of scorpions and other nocturnal Sonoran Desert creatures.
The hike is rated as moderate and will cover 3.7 miles and gain 528ft of elevation on rocky and loose trail. Due to the rocky ground, hiking poles and hiking boots are strongly encouraged. Please bring plenty of water with you and a flashlight or headlamp to light your way in the dark. CELLPHONE LIGHTS ARE NOT SUFFICIENT FOR THE HIKE. If you have blacklights please bring them along to help the ranger search for scorpions. Water can be found at the Nature Center but the bathrooms will be closed for the evening. Alternative bathrooms can be found just down the street at the Slate trailhead.
