Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Plant Hike – Morning Session

Join Ranger Nikki on an easy to moderate hike to learn about some of the flowers, shrubs and trees that are found in the Park. It is also National Invasive Species Awareness Week, so you can learn about the County Parks’ focus on improving native biodiversity and ecosystem health by dealing with problematic invaders.

Learn about the Sonoran Desert in springtime with a chance to see wildflowers and blooming shrubs. Late fall rains provided a start for the flower season so there may be a continuation of blooms or even a second round for spring. Possible sightings include poppies, lupine, desert hyacinth, fairy duster, globemallow and more. It is also National Invasive Species Awareness Week so you can learn about invasive plants that disrupt the ecosystem balance, how you can join volunteer efforts in the Valley to restore affected lands and how you can make a difference with your home garden. Ranger Nikki will lead you along Spur Cross and Metate Trails to make a 2-mile loop. The terrain ranges from flat and even to rocky and uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. There is also an afternoon option for this hike from 12:00-2:00pm. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun-protective clothing. There is NO water available at the park so please bring plenty of your own. Portable restrooms are available at the Trailhead.
MEETING LOCATION: Main Trailhead at covered picnic tables and restrooms
