Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: National Take a Hike Day Night Hike Night Hike

National Take a Hike Day is celebrated each year on November 17 in recognition of the National Trails System Act of 1968. This Act designated a series of scenic, historic and recreation trails in both backcountry and urban areas in an effort to provide outdoor opportunities for the public. Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department encourages you to connect with nature on a ranger-led hike, on this day or any day, to explore and learn about our beautiful Sonoran Desert.

To ensure everyone can enjoy this nationally recognized day, the regular day-use entry fee for all of Maricopa County’s regional parks will be waived on November 17.

This 1.5-mile, family-friendly hike will take place on the Quail, Saddle and Baseline trails. Trails are rated easy-moderate, so there is going to be some loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change as we go. We’ll keep a sharp desert eye out for all kinds of nighttime creatures like spiders, scorpions, lizards, snakes, owls, bats and other mammals.  Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring water. Restrooms are available a short distance from the Nature Center. NO pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center parking lot

No registration required.
