Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Metate in the Morning

August 29, 2025 @ 6:00 am - 9:00 am

Free with Park Fee
Never visited Spur Cross Ranch before? Come see an intro! Ranger Shaun’s going to be doing several short “demo hikes” and nature watching stops this morning!

Spur Cross is a beautiful, wild place. That’s amazing. It can also be intimidating. Ranger Shaun’s here to make it little friendlier for those that might need it. This morning we’ll be doing a few short intro hikes and nature watching stops along the easy Metate and Towhee trails with stops for nature watching at the Solar Oasis. This is more about exploration than mileage, so bring a sense of wonder, a magnifying glass, and binoculars if you have them!

The trails are rated easy but water bottles and closed toed shoes are still required. Hiking poles or walking sticks are needed but may be used if they increase your comfort. Sunscreen, hats, and sleeves are strongly recommended. No pets please. Each hike is expected to take between 45-minutes and an hour. You may stay for as much or as little of the hike(s) as you like.

MEETING LOCATION: Spur Cross Trailhead area
