Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Homeschool Happenings – Insect Investigation

September 14, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free with Park Fee

Join Rangers Nikki and Shaun to learn about six- and eight-legged desert critters known as arthropods. Some are creepy and some are crawly but all of them are super cool! Explore a variety of activity stops to get up close and personal with some of our favorite segmented, exoskeleton-wearing friends and answer questions on your observation sheet. Preserved and live specimens include spiders, beetles, butterflies, scorpions and more! Weather/heat permitting we will take a short walk near the nature center to scan the ground, plants and sky for live examples and see what they are up to. You can also make a bug-tastic craft and bring activity sheets home with you.  Please register your students ages 5-12 as participants and list number of younger siblings attending for supply purposes.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center classroom

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Estrella Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 6 with your name, phone number and number attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.   Registration for this program will close on Wednesday, September 13.
