Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Guided Reptile Hike

July 19, 2024 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Free with Park Fee
Learn about reptiles of Sonoran Desert during this guided walk with Ranger Eric.

This will be a late morning hike along the Slate and Flume Trails to look for reptiles of the Sonoran Desert. Along the way, we will discuss identification tips, their ecological roles, and safety around venomous animals. We will hike 1-2 miles roundtrip (depending on heat and interest) on easy grade, but occasionally rocky or uneven ground. Please wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water, electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Dragonfly Trailhead at the Jewel of the Creek Preserve parking lot (small lot on the left side of the road before you get to the Spur Cross lot at the end of the road). See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/spur-cross-8×11.pdf

*Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH are accepted, and exact change is much appreciated.

Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending.
