February 11, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Join Ranger Derik on a hike through the Sonoran Desert as you learn about the native foods that can be foraged in the park, as well as the native peoples that once harvested them.

Starting from the Cottonwood Day Use Area, we will head through pipeline canyon in search of wild desert edible plants that will be blooming or fruiting after the winter rains. Along the hike you will learn how to forage responsibly, what plants are medicinal, and about the native peoples of the region and their relationship with the wild edible foods. At the top of Yavapai point you will be able to take in breathtaking views of Lake Pleasant as well as the Hieroglyphic and Bradshaw Mountains.
