Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Discovery Station – Desert Legumes

June 28 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free with Park Fee

Many of the trees and shrubs in the Sonoran Desert belong to the legume or pea family and have long been an important food source for both wildlife and cultures of the American Southwest, including mesquites, paloverdes, ironwoods, and acacias. In addition, leguminous trees also provide crucial ecological functions and have been used by people for culinary, medicinal, and utilitarian
uses. There will be photos and specimens to look at up-close so you can learn how to identify the different species. Stop by anytime during the scheduled program time to learn from Ranger Eric all about our native legumes at this discovery station inside the Visitor Center. Nearby examples of many of these can also be seen in the front garden and along the Preserve’s trails.

MEETING LOCATION: Visitor Center

No registration required. Just stop by anytime between 10:00am and 12:00pm!
