Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert Edible Plant Hike

Learn all about the native edible plants fount in the Sonoran Desert and about the people that once called this place home during this guided hike with Ranger Derik.  

Join Ranger Derik for a guided hike to learn about the many native plants found in the region that can be eaten and how to make them edible. of the Sonoran Desert. We will hike 4.2 miles roundtrip on moderate to difficult grade, with frequently rocky or uneven ground. Please dress in layers, wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water, electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. Restrooms are available at the covered tables near the trailhead. Please note there is no water available in the park.

For those of you participating in the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, this is a great way to work towards your goal! The challenge runs from Nov.1-Feb. 8.

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on Sunday, 1/26/25.
