November 2, 2024 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free with Park Fee
Learn all about the Sonoran Desert ecosystem during this guided hike with Ranger Eric.

Join Ranger Eric for a guided hike to learn about the animals, plants, and ecology of the Sonoran Desert. We will hike 2.6 miles roundtrip on a loop of Spur Cross, Metate, and Towhee Trails. It will be on easy-moderate grade, with frequently rocky or uneven ground. Please dress in layers, wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water, electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. Porta-potties are located 200 ft beyond the parking lot. No water available, so bring your own.

For those wanting to kick-off the start of the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge (Nov. 1-Feb. 8), this hike is a great way to work towards your goal! For more info, visit the following link:  https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/things-to-do/activity/100-miles-in-100-days-challenge/

MEETING LOCATION: From the main trailhead parking at Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area, follow the signs and old road a few hundred feet down to the trail junction where there are porta-potties and a few picnic tables beneath a ramada. We will meet here for the hike. See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/spur-cross-8×11.pdf

*Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH are accepted, and exact change is much appreciated. If the fee station past the parking lot is closed, there are iron rangers with envelopes to place your payment in.

Limit 15 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on Thursday, 10/31.
