Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Creatures of the Night Walk

June 28, 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free with Park Fee
Join Ranger Eric on a hike to look for nocturnal wildlife, including scorpions!

Enjoy this evening hike as you look for and learn about the nocturnal critters of the Sonoran Desert with Ranger Eric! Wildlife may include scorpions, spiders, insects, owls, nightjars, reptiles, and mammals. Hiking will be an easy grade on occasionally sandy or uneven terrain and will be about 2 miles roundtrip on the Butterfield Trail, as time and weather allows. Please bring your own ample water and electrolytes, flashlight or headlamp, and wear sturdy footwear. A blacklight is recommended, but the ranger will have one to point out scorpions with. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: The west end of the Staging Area off of Arena Dr., parking at the Rainbow Valley Trailhead. See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/estrella-8×114.pdf

Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 6 with your name, phone number and number attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Visitor Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.
