Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Climate Change in the Sonoran Desert
October 20, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Free with Park Fee
Join Ranger Kevin for a 2.6-mile evening hike on the Spur Cross, Mariposa Hill and Fairy Duster trails. Trail segments are rated easy, with little loose rock, uneven terrain or elevation change. We will be on the lookout for a variety of desert plants and animals while talking about the ways climate change and extreme weather events are affecting the local environment. We’ll also be looking at how this summer’s intense heat and delayed monsoon storms tie into larger trends and climate patterns. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Restrooms are available near the trailhead. No pets, please.
MEETING LOCATION: We’ll meet at the picnic tables adjacent to the restrooms at the Spur Cross Trailhead. Spur Cross Ranch Conservation area has an entry fee of $3 per person. Please bring cash and use a self-pay envelope as you enter the Park.
Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 10/18.
