Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Clay Mine Hike and Tour

June 5, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free with Park Fee

Ready for a rare look inside a real Arizona mine?

We’ll be hiking roughly 1.8-miles round-trip to the Clay Mine, where an enterprising woman by the name of Leila P. Irish made a fortune. But it wasn’t gold, silver or copper that made her rich. The trails are rated easy-moderate, so please expect some loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring water. Hats and sunscreen are highly recommended. Restrooms are available at the Nature Center. NO pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 6/3.

PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events.
