Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: America 250 – Strawberry Moon over the Desert

June 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free with Park Fee

This 2-mile hike follows the Spur Cross and Metate trails in a loop, starting from the entry area. As we walk, we will listen for the mysterious sounds of the night and look for the unique creatures that become active under the moon’s silver glow. This program provides a unique opportunity to reflect on our shared heritage while immersed in the natural beauty that has remained a constant through 250 years of American history.

Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water, as there is no drinking water available at the park. Small hand-held flashlights are OK, but please refrain from using headlamps to preserve our night vision. Ensure your phone is fully charged and allow an extra 15 minutes to park and walk the quarter-mile from the parking lot to the trailhead meeting location. Entry to the park is $5 cash per person age 16 and up (exact change is required as no credit cards nor apple pay accepted; annual passes are accepted).

MEETING LOCATION: Spur Cross Trailhead, near the covered picnic tables past the contact booth

Precise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XUXZovE8vweFHAp79

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend after registering, please call ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 06/25/26.

PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor programs may be canceled or shortened on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.
