Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: America 250 – History of Pemberton Pond

This hike takes you on just a short portion of the journey early settlers of America had through traveling along the Pemberton trail, offering a unique glimpse into the area’s natural beauty interwoven with its rich history. This 3-mile roundtrip (out and back) hike, set on mostly level yet rocky terrain, will lead you to the remnants of a bygone era, where the land tells tales of early settlers and their interactions with this rugged landscape. As modern fire events continue to change this landscape, how might Arizona desert homes and life evolve into the future? How has the past affected our American and Arizonian history today? Come find out. Please remember to wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes and bring plenty of water. There are restrooms but no water at the trailhead staging area where we will meet.
PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. MEETING LOCATION: Trailhead Staging Area. Be aware that it will take an ADDITIONAL 5-10 minutes to get to the meeting location AFTER entering the park’s entry booth.

If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.
