HeatSync Labs: Designing Laser Cut Projects – Snowflake Ornaments or Earrings

Go from having never designed anything to making your own unique snowflakes as paper ornament or acrylic earrings.

This class will start you off with the Inkscape design software covering the the basics of how to use sketches, clip-art, photos, and shapes to combine and create your own unique designs. Then we will cover the use of path effects to create symmetrical snowflake designs.

Inkscape is a free and open source vector editor. Vector graphics are based on points lines and curves which can then be used as the paths to cut with a laser cutter. Many of the methods and techniques we will discuss will work regardless of the specific software you use.

It is also best for adults and kids age 10 and up, but parents can work with their younger kids if they want.

Some of the techniques in this class I learned from the great Inkscape Mandala Tutorial by IronEcho Design on YouTube.

The first 90 minutes will be the tutorial on Inkscape, the last 90 minutes will be cutting out our designs. If you just want to select a design and cut it out you can arrive at 6:30 pm.
