Flagstaff Festival of Science: Flagstaff ‘s 25th Anniversary as a Dark Sky City

2026 is a year of anniversaries for Flagstaff. 100 years after the establishment of Route 66, the city of Flagstaff has grown nearly 15 times its original population in 1926. As the first city in the world given the title of “International Dark Sky City” by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) in 2001, Flagstaff’s story of growth and the efforts made to protect its natural dark skies go hand-in-hand.
