Flagstaff Festival of Science: Beyond Conservation – Rewriting the Water Story of the Southwest

September 22, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

Join public sociologist, Janine Schipper for a thought-provoking talk on why conservation alone will not lead to a sustainable water future.

Drawing from her book, “Conservation is Not Enough: Rethinking Relationships with Water in the Arid Southwest,” she invites us to rethink our most basic assumptions and imagine new, more reciprocal relationships with water.

Part of Flagstaff Festival of Science, a free annual 10-day event wholly designed to promote awareness and enthusiasm for science in and about northern Arizona and beyond, and is fondly known as the Best 10 Days of the Year. Established in 1990, it is the longest, continuously running, entirely free science festival in the world.
