Desert Rivers Audubon Society: Upper Beeline Hwy Sycamore Creek w/Anne Leight Field Trip

September 12, 2024 @ 6:10 am - 1:00 pm

Maricopa county’s most accessible high elevation riparian areas is just 20 minutes north of Fountain Hills. The birding is partly done by car along a paved road, and partly by foot (also along a paved road). Many stops by car; then walking (3 miles round trip) mostly flat road (paved) surface.

Species: Hutton’s vireo; Woodhouse and Steller’s jays; Townsend’s Solitaire; Green-tailed, Spotted and Canyon towhees; Juniper and Bridled titmice; canyon wren; Red-naped sapsucker; Mountain Chickadee; Bushtit; Crissal thrasher; Spotted towhee; Dark-eyed juncos; Western Bluebird.

Meeting Location: Denny’s parking LOT near the intersection of Beeline Hwy (RT 87) and Shea Blvd.
Meeting Time: 6:10AM.  It will likely take 30 minutes to get there.
Bring: Snacks, plenty of water, trekking poles if you use them.
Cell Service: Good at the very beginning of the road (old beeline hwy) and the very end of the road (near Sunflower). None in between.
I expect to leave the area around Noon – 1:00PM as bird activity is greatly diminished at this time.

I look forward to birding with you all!
