Arizona Science Teachers Association: Priority vs. Essential – Clarifying Standards to Strengthen Science Instruction

August 28, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 11:00 am

Free

Have you ever asked whether Arizona’s Science Standards identify essential or priority standards like Math and ELA do? In this session, participants will examine how the Arizona Science Standards (AzSS) differ from other content areas in their approach to identifying priority vs essential standards.

We’ll discuss how understanding this distinction can support effective instructional planning. The session will also highlight how engineering-focused performance expectations are integrated throughout the AzSS, helping administrators support teachers in recognizing and leveraging these embedded opportunities.
