Pima County Conservation Lands and Resources: Rocks of the Rincon Mountains

Join an interpretive naturalist for a guided geology hike in Colossal Cave Mountain Park. As an exceptional karst and cave landscape and culturescape, Colossal Cave Mountain Park represents not only a chance to interpret the fascinating and unique geologic forces that shaped our bioregion, but how those very forces shaped the biodiversity and cultural resilience that came about because of those tumultuous geological processes.

DIRECTIONS: Colossal Cave Mountain Park, 16721 E. Old Spanish Trail, Vail 85641 From East Tucson – Take 22nd Street to Old Spanish Trail and turn south, follow it about 17 miles to the Park entrance. From I-10 take exit 279 (the Vail/Wentworth exit), turn north on Colossal Cave Road and follow the signs for about 7 miles to the Park entrance. When you enter the park bear right and follow signs to La Posta Quemada Ranch. For hikes and birding walks the group meets at the Cowboy Statue and Picnic Area which is just before you get to La Posta Quemada Ranch buildings. Sections of the trail are steep and rocky. Please carry water and wear sturdy hiking shoes.
