Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: America 250 – Pemberton Pond Hike- Echoes of the Past

In the spirit of America 250, join Ranger Jacque for a journey through the Pemberton trail and through time. This program offers a unique glimpse into the area’s natural beauty interwoven with its rich history, reflecting on the American story of resilience and adaptation in the Sonoran Desert.  

This 3-mile roundtrip (out-and-back) sunset hike is set on mostly level yet rocky terrain. The path leads you to the remnants of a bygone era, where the land tells tales of early settlers and their interactions with this rugged landscape. As modern fire events continue to change the desert, we will discuss how Arizona homes and life have evolved over the last 250 years and what the future may hold.  

Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water, sun protection, and a flashlight. Restrooms and water are available at the trailhead.

Limit 25 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 3 and provide your name, phone number, and total number of people in your party. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 8/17/26.
