Mesa Arts Center: Van Dyke Photograms

October 3 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

$104

Van Dyke Brown is a 19th century printing process that creates a deep, rich brown image. Prints are made by hand-coating watercolor paper with a silver nitrate mix, followed by exposure to UV light. We will use this process to create photograms, which are photo prints made without the use of a camera. Students will make compositions with translucent objects found in nature or at home. Materials can include glass or plastic, leaves, feathers, and any other objects. These will be laid over the coated paper before exposure. Students also are welcome to bring their own digital negatives for making contact prints. All materials are provided, but students may bring objects from home to create their photogram.
